I am Marit Kiona van Gijtenbeek, I’m 30 years old and I have a background in organizational behaviour and theory. After working at a big financial institution for 4 years, I decided to quit my job and follow my dream. Right now I am travelling the world for about 6 months, during which I will visit several communities from different cultural backgrounds.
I would like to investigate if there is another way for people to work together in an organization or a social entity than the way of working I have experienced. Therefore, I want to learn from inspiring collectives and organizations. Maybe I can derive insights from their way of working together or provide other methods of creating a more harmonious way of working in a corporate environment.
In the past, I would use all kinds of theories and academic research styles to investigate, frame, and explain. However, this time, I will take the so-called outside-in approach. I will try to watch, listen, ask questions and tell stories. Because learning by doing is still the best way to learn.
In the summer of 2017, I started my own company: Kiona. My vision for my company is to find (or design) a way of working together that is both inspirational and engaging, based to the lessons I have learned while travelling. I am still travelling at this moment, but already I am occupying myself with the exploration of a community-based-cooperation model.
